In value terms, motor grader exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa represented the major exporter of motor graders and levellers in Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X units, which was approx. 40% of total exports in 2022. Botswana (X units) took a 5.1% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Niger (4.8%) and Burkina Faso (4.8%). Senegal (X units), Zambia (X units), Mozambique (X units), Tunisia (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Kenya (X units), Mali (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to motor grader exports from South Africa stood at -9.0%. At the same time, Mozambique (+13.3%), Zambia (+12.3%), Burkina Faso (+9.6%), Zimbabwe (+9.1%), Tunisia (+7.2%) and Niger (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +13.3% from 2012-2022. Senegal and Kenya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mali (-1.8%), Botswana (-3.8%) and Cote d'Ivoire (-10.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Burkina Faso (+3.9 p.p.), Zambia (+3.3 p.p.), Niger (+3 p.p.), Mozambique (+2.9 p.p.), Tunisia (+2.6 p.p.), Zimbabwe (+2.3 p.p.) and Senegal (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -11.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest motor grader supplier in Africa, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Niger, with a 4.5% share.
In South Africa, motor grader exports decreased by an average annual rate of -7.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Burkina Faso (+38.9% per year) and Niger (+3.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Zimbabwe ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+26.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, the amount of motor graders and levellers imported in Africa plummeted to X units, reducing by -15.3% against 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 308% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, motor grader imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of motor grader imports in 2022 were South Africa (X units), Egypt (X units), Ghana (X units), Kenya (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Nigeria (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Tanzania (X units), Ethiopia (X units), Burkina Faso (X units), Uganda (X units) and Cameroon (X units), together recording 69% of total import. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +12.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Ghana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 36% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +21.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 64% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Uganda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+40.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
