Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, motorcycle and scooter exports surged to $X in 2020. In general, exports saw notable growth. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uganda represented the key exporter of motorcycles and scooters in Africa, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X units), Togo (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units), together mixing up a X% share of total exports. Nigeria (X units), Swaziland (X units) and Kenya (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Uganda increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, Togo (+X%), Kenya (+X%), Swaziland (+X%) and Burkina Faso (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. South Africa and Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Kenya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2019, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported motorcycles and scooters in Africa, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Kenya ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Guinea, with a X% share.

In Nigeria, motorcycle and scooter imports plunged by an average annual rate of -X% over the period from 2007-2020. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kenya (+X% per year) and Guinea (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the motorcycle and scooter import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, remaining constant against the previous year.
