In value terms, phosphate rock exports fell modestly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. from 2009 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Morocco was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Togo (X tons), together making up a X% share of total exports. Algeria (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to phosphate rock exports from Morocco stood at +X%. At the same time, Senegal (+X%), Egypt (+X%) and Togo (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, phosphate rock imports reduced slightly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

Mali represented the major importer of phosphate rock in Africa, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons) and Benin (X tons), together committing a X% share of total imports. Senegal (X tons), Uganda (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Angola (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Benin (+X% per year), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Benin ($X), Mali ($X) and Tunisia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2020, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Benin (+X% per year) saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
