In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest needles, catheters, cannulae supplier in Africa, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with an 11% share.

In Tunisia, needles, catheters, cannulae exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+16.3% per year) and South Africa (+8.1% per year).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -11.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Morocco (X units), Tunisia (X units), South Africa (X units), Egypt (X units) and Nigeria (X units) represented roughly 59% of total imports in 2021. Kenya (X units), Ethiopia (X units), Ghana (X units), Sudan (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +22.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported needles, catheters, cannulae in Africa, comprising 26% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 10% share.

In South Africa, needles, catheters, cannulae imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tunisia (+6.4% per year) and Morocco (+6.5% per year).
