In value terms, twine, cordage or textile net exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Morocco (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) represented the key exporters of nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials in 2021, reaching near 21% and 20% of total exports, respectively. Togo (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Tunisia (12%), Kenya (11%), Mauritania (8.8%) and Rwanda (4.8%).

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 28%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
For the fourth consecutive year, Africa recorded decline in purchases abroad of nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials, which decreased by -28.4% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, twine, cordage or textile net imports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Ghana (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) represented the major importers of nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials in Africa, together achieving 28% of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8% share, followed by Angola (6.7%), South Africa (5.9%) and Senegal (4.7%). These countries were followed by Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Guinea, Tanzania, Mozambique and Kenya, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Among the main importing countries, South Africa, with a CAGR of +5.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
