Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +44.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ethiopia (-1.3%) and Zambia (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Senegal (+4.3 p.p.), Madagascar (+4 p.p.), Burkina Faso (+4 p.p.) and Sudan (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ethiopia, Zambia and Morocco saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -4.2% and -4.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nitric acid and sulphonitric acids in Africa, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Sudan, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Morocco totaled +1.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (+6.0% per year) and Sudan (+24.1% per year).
