Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +13.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Egypt (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Egypt (+5.3 p.p.) and Tunisia (+4.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -10% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Tunisia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 99% of total exports.
Tunisia, with a CAGR of +7.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -30% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 25%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In general, imports posted a significant increase. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, noils of wool imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 402% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) dominates imports structure, together constituting 92% of total imports. The following importers - Morocco (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) - each recorded a 6.3% share of total imports.
