Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 29%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics stood at $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Egypt (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total exports in 2022. Morocco (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Tunisia (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +70.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X), South Africa ($X) and Egypt ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 69% share of total exports. Morocco, Mauritius, Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Mauritius, with a CAGR of +70.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics increased by +59.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 157% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +15.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 111%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

South Africa (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Algeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 34% share of total imports. Nigeria (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Sudan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics imports into Egypt stood at +8.3%. At the same time, Algeria (+18.1%), Senegal (+17.4%), Cameroon (+15.4%), Ghana (+7.7%), Tunisia (+6.5%), Nigeria (+5.8%), South Africa (+5.5%), Kenya (+5.3%), Sudan (+4.5%) and Morocco (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +18.1% from 2012-2022. Algeria (+4.9 p.p.), Egypt (+3.7 p.p.) and Senegal (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Morocco and South Africa saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -2.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 56% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Algeria, with a CAGR of +20.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
