The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 52%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa represented the main exporter of non-cellular polyvinyl chloride films, sheets, foil and strip in Africa, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 51% of total exports in 2022. By contrast, Algeria (-1.5%) and Egypt (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Tunisia, Tanzania, Sao Tome and Principe, Zambia, Namibia and Ghana increased by +8.1, +3.5, +2.6, +2.4, +1.9 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film supplier in Africa, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 19% share.
In South Africa, non-cellular polyvinyl chloride film exports decreased by an average annual rate of -8.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-4.5% per year) and Tunisia (+16.7% per year).

Djibouti, with a CAGR of +21.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Djibouti ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Djibouti (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
