Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 270%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-domestic dishwashing machine exports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-domestic dishwashing machine imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Egypt (X units), Mauritius (X units), Morocco (X units), Algeria (X units) and Angola (X units) represented the main importers of non-domestic dish-washing machines, together creating 67% of total imports. Mozambique (X units), Kenya (X units), Tunisia (X units), Libya (X units) and Ethiopia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

While the share of Mauritius (+8.8 p.p.), Morocco (+4.6 p.p.), Algeria (+2.9 p.p.), Kenya (+1.8 p.p.) and Angola (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-3.9 p.p.), Egypt (-4.9 p.p.) and Mozambique (-16.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Egypt ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 43% of total imports. Angola, Algeria, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Libya, Kenya and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

Among the main importing countries, Mauritius, with a CAGR of +16.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, surging by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
