In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 4,699% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, non-electric roasting furnace exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 293% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Rwanda prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 94% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X units), mixing up a 5.5% share of total exports.

Rwanda was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-electric furnaces and ovens for the roasting or melting exports, with a CAGR of +77.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Africa (+13.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Rwanda (+94 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -70.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest non-electric roasting furnace supplier in Africa, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Rwanda ($X), with a 0.5% share of total exports.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -46.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a sharp downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 899% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Rwanda amounted to $X per unit.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of non-electric furnaces and ovens for the roasting or melting was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 64%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-electric roasting furnace imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Nigeria (X units) was the major importer of non-electric furnaces and ovens for the roasting or melting, achieving 38% of total imports. Zimbabwe (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Tanzania (9.6%), South Africa (9.5%) and Egypt (5.7%). Kenya (X units), Zambia (X units) and Mozambique (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-electric roasting furnace imports into Nigeria stood at +33.9%. At the same time, Tanzania (+38.6%), Zimbabwe (+30.6%), Zambia (+18.4%), Kenya (+11.4%) and Mozambique (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +38.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Egypt (-11.3%) and South Africa (-23.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya and Mozambique increased by +37, +14, +9.4, +3.7, +3.3 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Zambia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 72% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +33.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
