The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 12%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of non-wheat flours was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 79%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 41%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Rwanda (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) dominates exports structure, together mixing up 83% of total exports. Togo (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Uganda (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +63.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-wheat flour supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Rwanda ($X) and Tanzania ($X), together accounting for 77% of total exports. Uganda, Morocco, Lesotho and Togo lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.3%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +48.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 24%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uganda (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of non-wheat flours, when their volume decreased by -18.8% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Angola (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons) represented roughly 79% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mozambique (X tons), comprising a 6.1% share of total imports. The following importers - South Sudan (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) - each reached a 4.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +38.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mozambique ($X), Lesotho ($X) and Angola ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 66% share of total imports.
Mozambique, with a CAGR of +45.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 1.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+10.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
