The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-woven glass fibre articles imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Sudan (with a CAGR of +40.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Ghana ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 46% of total imports. These countries were followed by Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritius, Cote d'Ivoire, Sudan and Cameroon, which together accounted for a further 38%.

Sudan, with a CAGR of +45.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Libya (+13.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
