Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +53.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ghana (-22.8%) and South Africa (-29.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Zambia, Namibia and Swaziland increased by +61, +2.1 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Zambia ($X) remains the largest numerically controlled drilling machine supplier in Africa, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Swaziland, with a 16% share.

In Zambia, numerically controlled drilling machine exports contracted by an average annual rate of -15.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (-27.5% per year) and Swaziland (+52.4% per year).

Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 338% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, numerically controlled drilling machine imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern.
