From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+15.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, imports of o-acetylsalicylic acid, its salts and esters in Africa contracted to X tons, with a decrease of -12.3% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, o-acetylsalicylic acid imports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Kenya, with a CAGR of +15.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zimbabwe (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
