The African organo-inorganic compounds market reduced rapidly to $X in 2021, which is down by -15.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of organo-inorganic compounds (excluding organo-sulphur compounds) was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 259% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, organo-inorganic compounds exports expanded to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a sharp downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 204% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Africa prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 79% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), creating a 6.1% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -15.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+34.4%), Morocco (+18.9%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+14.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +34.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Egypt (-45.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+59 p.p.), Tunisia (+4.2 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+4.1 p.p.) and Morocco (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-72.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) emerged as the largest organo-inorganic compounds supplier in Africa, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 2.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -14.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (-35.4% per year) and Morocco (+2.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -6.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 74%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+18.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, organo-inorganic compounds imports in Africa soared to X tons, picking up by 20% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, organo-inorganic compounds imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +29.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

South Africa represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 39% of total imports. Djibouti (X tons) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Algeria (11%) and Egypt (10%). The following importers - Morocco (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - together made up 8.3% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Djibouti (with a CAGR of +82.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest organo-inorganic compounds importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Djibouti ($X) and Algeria ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Djibouti, with a CAGR of +116.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Djibouti ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
