From 2017 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country
South Africa prevails in exports structure, resulting at X cubic meters, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kenya (X cubic meters), comprising a 5.3% share of total exports. The following exporters - Swaziland (X cubic meters) and Namibia (X cubic meters) - each accounted for a 7.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to oriented strandboard (OSB) exports from South Africa stood at -1.2%. At the same time, Namibia (+53.4%) and Swaziland (+15.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +53.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kenya (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa, Namibia and Swaziland increased by +9.7, +3.5 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest oriented strandboard (OSB) supplier in Africa, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with a 5.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -4.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kenya (-7.0% per year) and Namibia (+47.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, surging by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per cubic meter), while Swaziland ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, purchases abroad of oriented strandboard (OSB) was finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, oriented strandboard (OSB) imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, South Africa (X cubic meters), distantly followed by Algeria (X cubic meters), Morocco (X cubic meters) and Kenya (X cubic meters) represented the main importers of oriented strandboard (OSB), together creating 70% of total imports. The following importers - Tanzania (X cubic meters), Angola (X cubic meters), Egypt (X cubic meters), Ghana (X cubic meters), Botswana (X cubic meters), Namibia (X cubic meters) and Tunisia (X cubic meters) - together made up 19% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Algeria (with a CAGR of +31.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest oriented strandboard (OSB) importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X), together comprising 62% of total imports. Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Egypt, Ghana, Angola and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Among the main importing countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +26.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, rising by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a modest expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per cubic meter), while Angola ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
