In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic monoamines exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 240%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the largest exporter of other aromatic monoamines and their derivatives, salts thereof in Africa, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 61% of total exports in 2021. Kenya (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held near 37% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aromatic monoamines exports from South Africa stood at -2.1%. At the same time, Kenya (+7.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +7.4% from 2012-2021. Senegal experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Senegal (+17 p.p.), Kenya (+13 p.p.) and South Africa (+9.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest aromatic monoamines supplier in Africa, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled -7.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kenya (+11.0% per year) and Senegal (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -47.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 71% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic monoamines imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 38% of total imports. Gambia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Kenya (18%), Egypt (8.1%) and Nigeria (5.6%). Zimbabwe (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Kenya (with a CAGR of +49.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest aromatic monoamines importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Zimbabwe ($X), together accounting for 68% of total imports. These countries were followed by Kenya, Gambia and Nigeria, which together accounted for a further 7.3%.

Gambia, with a CAGR of +5,444.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -46.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Gambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
