In value terms, respiration apparatus exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 250%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

South Africa dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2021. Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Cameroon (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to respiration apparatus exports from South Africa stood at +15.4%. At the same time, Cameroon (+83.9%), Egypt (+43.1%), Algeria (+32.8%) and Tunisia (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest respiration apparatus supplier in Africa, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 2.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to +8.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+6.0% per year) and Egypt (+62.7% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 112%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, respiration apparatus imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 162%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

Egypt (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the key importers of ozone therapy, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiration apparatus in 2021, recording approx. 31% and 21% of total imports, respectively. Morocco (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Algeria (X tons). All these countries together held near 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Tunisia (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Libya (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Zimbabwe (with a CAGR of +36.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest respiration apparatus importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 45% share of total imports. Algeria, Ethiopia, Libya, Tunisia, Sudan, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zimbabwe lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +34.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -10.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
