As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

South Africa dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2021. Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Cameroon (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to respiration apparatus exports from South Africa stood at +15.4%. At the same time, Cameroon (+83.9%), Egypt (+43.1%), Algeria (+32.8%) and Tunisia (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cameroon emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +83.9% from 2012-2021. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest respiration apparatus supplier in Africa, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 2.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to +8.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+6.0% per year) and Egypt (+62.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+13.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of ozone therapy, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiration apparatus increased by 4.6% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 112%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, respiration apparatus imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 162%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
