The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of paint, distemper, varnish or similar brushes, paint pads and rollers skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. By contrast, Libya (-4.9%) and Tunisia (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Algeria (+6.8 p.p.), Tanzania (+3.2 p.p.), Morocco (+3 p.p.), Kenya (+2.4 p.p.), South Africa (+2.3 p.p.) and Guinea (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Libya (-4.3 p.p.) and Tunisia (-4.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported paint, distemper, varnish or similar brushes, paint pads and rollers in Africa, comprising 21% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Kenya, with an 8% share.
