In value terms, Nigeria ($X), South Africa ($X) and Ethiopia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 69% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Egypt, Cote d'Ivoire, Mauritius, Senegal and Djibouti, which together accounted for a further 19%.
Mauritius, with a CAGR of +50.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
