Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 109%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, assembled parquet panels exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Mozambique (X tons) represented the main exporter of assembled parquet panels, making up 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), mixing up a 23% share of total exports. The following exporters - Angola (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total exports.

Mozambique was also the fastest-growing in terms of the assembled parquet panels exports, with a CAGR of +76.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Angola (+76.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Zimbabwe (-3.4%) and South Africa (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Mozambique ($X), South Africa ($X) and Angola ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 89% share of total exports.

Mozambique, with a CAGR of +78.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of assembled parquet panels was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, assembled parquet panels imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Morocco (X tons), distantly followed by South Africa (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the key importers of assembled parquet panels, together committing 74% of total imports. Lesotho (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +40.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest assembled parquet panels importing markets in Africa were Morocco ($X), South Africa ($X) and Egypt ($X), together accounting for 75% of total imports.

Morocco, with a CAGR of +31.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 8.3%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
