In 2021, passenger car exports in Africa was estimated at X units, increasing by 11% compared with the year before. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -18.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Morocco represented the main exporter of passenger cars in Africa, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 63% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X units), constituting a 35% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Ghana (X units), Morocco (X units), Libya (X units), Kenya (X units) and Botswana (X units) represented the main importers of passenger cars, together making up 50% of total imports. Nigeria (X units), Algeria (X units), Guinea (X units), Tunisia (X units), Tanzania (X units), Egypt (X units) and Sudan (X units) took a little share of total imports.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 26% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
