The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 12%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the yield remained at a lower figure. In 2021, overseas shipments of peaches and nectarines were finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 93% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, peach and nectarine exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 72% of total exports. Morocco (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Zambia (9.4%). Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Zambia (+64.3%) and Morocco (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +64.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-16.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+16 p.p.), Zambia (+9.4 p.p.) and Morocco (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tunisia saw its share reduced by -27.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest peach and nectarine supplier in Africa, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Zambia, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at +9.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+4.3% per year) and Zambia (+83.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (+11.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, approx. X tons of peaches and nectarines were imported in Africa; increasing by 11% compared with the previous year. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, peach and nectarine imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. It was distantly followed by Libya (X tons), making up an 18% share of total imports. The following importers - South Africa (X tons) and Botswana (X tons) - each accounted for a 4% share of total imports.
Algeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the peaches and nectarines imports, with a CAGR of +24.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Africa (+3.1%) and Botswana (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Libya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Algeria (+44 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Botswana (-2 p.p.), South Africa (-2.8 p.p.) and Libya (-29.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Algeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported peaches and nectarines in Africa, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Libya ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 5% share.
In Algeria, peach and nectarine imports increased at an average annual rate of +19.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Libya (+1.1% per year) and South Africa (+2.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild shrinkage.
