Imports into Morocco increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lesotho (+216.0%), Nigeria (+43.1%), Egypt (+42.8%), Cabo Verde (+17.6%), Botswana (+9.2%) and Senegal (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +216.0% from 2012-2021. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mauritius (-1.1%) and Swaziland (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Morocco (+60 p.p.), Nigeria (+7.6 p.p.), Botswana (+3.8 p.p.), Egypt (+3.4 p.p.), Senegal (+2.4 p.p.), Swaziland (+1.8 p.p.) and Lesotho (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Namibia (-4.1 p.p.) and Mauritius (-8.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pears in Africa, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with an 8.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 5.7% share.

In Morocco, pear imports increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+40.4% per year) and Egypt (+18.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
