The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crude oil exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 39%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Nigeria (X tons) and Libya (X tons) represented the main exporters of crude petroleum oil in 2022, accounting for approx. 36% and 31% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Algeria (X tons), creating a 9% share of total exports. Gabon (X tons), Angola (X tons), Congo (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Chad (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Libya (with a CAGR of +9.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Libya ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Angola ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 72% of total exports.
Libya, with a CAGR of +4.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 56% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Cameroon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
South Africa (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) represented roughly 65% of total imports in 2022. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Kenya (7.7%), Tunisia (6.4%) and Senegal (5.1%). Zambia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Egypt (with a CAGR of +5.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest crude oil importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined 82% share of total imports. Tunisia, Kenya, Senegal and Zambia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +5.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 39% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
