The African crude oil market declined to $X in 2022, which is down by -5.9% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a perceptible descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

It was distantly followed by Algeria (X tons), creating a 9% share of total exports. Gabon (X tons), Angola (X tons), Congo (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Cameroon (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Chad (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Libya (with a CAGR of +9.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Libya ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Angola ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 72% of total exports.

Libya, with a CAGR of +4.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 56% against the previous year. The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 39% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
