The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, photographic paper exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 124%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, resulting at X square meters, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2021. Kenya (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Swaziland (X square meters). All these countries together took approx. 18% share of total exports. Morocco (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -8.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Swaziland (+21.4%), Kenya (+11.9%) and Morocco (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +21.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kenya and Swaziland increased by +8.1 and +7.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest photographic paper supplier in Africa, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -12.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kenya (+11.1% per year) and Morocco (+17.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2021, increasing by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 109% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per square meter), while Swaziland ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

The following importers - Morocco (X square meters), Cameroon (X square meters), Central African Republic (X square meters), Nigeria (X square meters), Rwanda (X square meters) and Uganda (X square meters) - together made up 20% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of +34.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Tanzania ($X), Egypt ($X) and Algeria ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 30% share of total imports. Ethiopia, Kenya, Central African Republic, Morocco, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, Uganda, Nigeria and Rwanda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.
Rwanda, with a CAGR of +21.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2021, surging by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight decrease. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Central African Republic ($X per square meter), while Rwanda ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Central African Republic (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
