At the same time, Nigeria (+8.1%), Algeria (+6.4%), Egypt (+5.1%) and Morocco (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +8.1% from 2012-2021. Tunisia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa increased by +2.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported phthalic anhydride, terephthalic acid and its salts in Africa, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 3.3% share.
