In 2021, the African pile-driver market increased by 4.6% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. Congo (X units) and Senegal (X units) were the largest exporters of pile-drivers and pile-extractors in 2021, reaching approx. 23% and 22% of total exports, respectively. South Africa (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Swaziland (X units) and Tanzania (X units). All these countries together held approx. 36% share of total exports. Mali (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +100.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X), Congo ($X) and South Africa ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 43% share of total exports. Senegal, Swaziland, Cote d'Ivoire and Mali lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Mali, with a CAGR of +149.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 230%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mali (+24.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pile-driver imports fell dramatically to X units in 2021, dropping by -24.1% against the previous year. In general, imports showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 3,184%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pile-driver imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 40%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The purchases of the four major importers of pile-drivers and pile-extractors, namely Chad, Nigeria, Somalia and Cote d'Ivoire, represented more than half of total import. South Africa, Somalia, Madagascar, Senegal, Morocco, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania and Benin lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

Somalia, with a CAGR of +76.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 1,682% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Benin ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
