South Africa prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 71% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X units), achieving a 4.6% share of total exports. Egypt (X units), Ghana (X units), Senegal (X units), Sierra Leone (X units) and Morocco (X units) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic doors and windows exports from South Africa stood at +2.0%. At the same time, Morocco (+32.1%), Senegal (+31.5%), Tunisia (+29.1%), Egypt (+11.5%), Sierra Leone (+7.1%) and Ghana (+6.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +32.1% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Morocco, Ghana and Sierra Leone increased by +28, +4.3, +3.3, +3, +2.3, +2.2 and +1.8 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest plastic doors and windows supplier in Africa, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 4.5% share.
In South Africa, plastic doors and windows exports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+23.3% per year) and Morocco (+43.8% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (+11.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, approx. X units of plastic doors, windows and their frames were imported in Africa; growing by 10% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic doors and windows imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria was the main importer of plastic doors, windows and their frames in Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 30% of total imports in 2022. Libya (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.7% share, followed by South Africa (5.6%), Tunisia (5.5%) and Somalia (4.5%). Algeria (X units), Ghana (X units), Senegal (X units), Morocco (X units), Cameroon (X units), Kenya (X units), Sudan (X units) and Botswana (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Nigeria decreased at an average annual rate of -4.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Somalia (+43.0%), Cameroon (+29.8%), Senegal (+19.4%), Botswana (+16.1%), Morocco (+9.7%), Tunisia (+6.3%), Ghana (+5.5%), Kenya (+4.7%) and South Africa (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Somalia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +43.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Libya (-4.0%), Sudan (-4.3%) and Algeria (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Somalia (+4.4 p.p.), Senegal (+3.1 p.p.), Tunisia (+2.9 p.p.), Cameroon (+2.3 p.p.), Morocco (+2.2 p.p.), Ghana (+1.9 p.p.) and Botswana (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Libya, Algeria and Nigeria saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -5.1% and -9.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Libya ($X) and South Africa ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 30% share of total imports. Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Somalia, Senegal, Cameroon, Sudan, Botswana and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.
Somalia, with a CAGR of +42.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -14.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 30%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
