The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 70%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, plastic furniture fittings imports in Africa soared to X tons, increasing by 15% against 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic furniture fittings imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

The countries with the highest levels of plastic furniture fittings imports in 2021 were Morocco (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together amounting to 47% of total import. Algeria (X tons) took a 7.2% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Libya (6%), Ghana (5.9%) and Tunisia (4.8%). Nigeria (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons) and Botswana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Zimbabwe (with a CAGR of +25.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), Morocco ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 65% of total imports. These countries were followed by Tunisia, Algeria, Ghana, Libya, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Botswana, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, which together accounted for a further 27%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Botswana, with a CAGR of +14.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3% against the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, plastic furniture fittings import price increased by +94.4% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 38%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
