From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic hose and hose fitting exports from South Africa stood at -2.2%. At the same time, Togo (+32.7%), Morocco (+16.4%), Cote d'Ivoire (+15.5%) and Ghana (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +32.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-4.1%) and Egypt (-25.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 85% of total exports. These countries were followed by Egypt, Togo, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, which together accounted for a further 8.8%.

Togo, with a CAGR of +30.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 45% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, plastic hose and hose fitting export price increased by +95.4% against 2016 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 16%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 17%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
