South Africa was the major exporter of pneumatic elevators and conveyors in Africa, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was approx. 76% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Uganda (X units), making up a 19% share of total exports.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 490% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, faced a deep setback. In 2022, Egypt (X units), distantly followed by Nigeria (X units), Tanzania (X units), Senegal (X units), Uganda (X units), Kenya (X units), South Africa (X units), Algeria (X units) and Morocco (X units) were the major importers of pneumatic elevators and conveyors, together committing 71% of total imports. The following importers - Ghana (X units), Mozambique (X units), Zambia (X units) and Tunisia (X units) - together made up 10% of total imports.

Imports into Egypt decreased at an average annual rate of -14.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zambia (+23.5%), Senegal (+22.7%), Tanzania (+18.0%), Uganda (+16.3%), Morocco (+11.6%), Tunisia (+9.6%) and Mozambique (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +23.5% from 2012-2022. Nigeria and Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Algeria (-1.6%), Kenya (-3.8%) and South Africa (-14.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Tanzania (+6.8 p.p.), Senegal (+6.4 p.p.), Uganda (+5.9 p.p.), Morocco (+4 p.p.), Nigeria (+3.8 p.p.), Mozambique (+1.9 p.p.), Algeria (+1.7 p.p.) and Zambia (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-9.5 p.p.) and Egypt (-33.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Algeria ($X), Nigeria ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 31% share of total imports. Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Tunisia, Mozambique, Zambia and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

Zambia, with a CAGR of +33.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, rising by 40% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 2,224% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Uganda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
