The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa was the largest exporter of polishes and creams for wooden furniture and floors in Africa, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 80% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X tons), achieving a 15% share of total exports. Egypt (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

While the share of Mauritius (+15 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-16.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest wooden furniture treatments supplier in Africa, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -2.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritius (+43.5% per year) and Egypt (+9.4% per year).

Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Mauritius ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+10.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Zambia represented the main importer of polishes and creams for wooden furniture and floors in Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 31% of total imports in 2022. Madagascar (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Zimbabwe (7.9%) and Libya (5.4%). The following importers - Algeria (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Liberia (X tons), Lesotho (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) - together made up 24% of total imports.
Zambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of polishes and creams for wooden furniture and floors. At the same time, Liberia (+55.1%), Madagascar (+8.3%), Morocco (+6.2%), Nigeria (+1.8%) and Lesotho (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Liberia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +55.1% from 2012-2022. Kenya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Algeria (-1.7%), Libya (-1.8%), South Africa (-1.8%), Mozambique (-2.6%), Zimbabwe (-3.8%) and Botswana (-10.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Madagascar (+7 p.p.), Liberia (+3.2 p.p.) and Zambia (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Zimbabwe (-3 p.p.) and Botswana (-6.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Zambia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polishes and creams for wooden furniture and floors in Africa, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Madagascar ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Zambia was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Madagascar (+8.6% per year) and Zimbabwe (-3.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per ton), while Liberia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
