As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, polyethylene binder exports rose to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 115%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Morocco (X tons) represented the key exporter of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines, mixing up 40% of total exports. Senegal (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Egypt (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and South Africa (X tons). All these countries together held near 52% share of total exports. Tanzania (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyethylene binder exports from Morocco stood at +27.5%. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Morocco amounted to +26.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+30.1% per year) and Senegal (+76.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines decreased by -4.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, polyethylene binder imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 61%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of polyethylene binder imports in 2022 were South Africa (X tons), Sudan (X tons) and Cameroon (X tons), together resulting at 49% of total import. Morocco (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Mozambique (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Egypt (X tons). All these countries together took near 23% share of total imports. The following importers - Mali (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +65.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest polyethylene binder importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Sudan ($X) and Cameroon ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. Morocco, Egypt, Mozambique, Ghana, Algeria, Ethiopia, Mali, Tunisia, Nigeria and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

Among the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +65.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
