In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest polymethyl methacrylate supplier in Africa, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 4.2% share.

Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polymethyl methacrylate imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Nigeria (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Rwanda (X tons) represented roughly 78% of total imports in 2022. Rwanda, with a CAGR of +138.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
