The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -12.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Rwanda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of poultry incubators and brooders in Africa reduced sharply to X units, which is down by -38.9% against the year before. In general, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 190% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, poultry incubator imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Algeria (X units), Morocco (X units), South Africa (X units), Tanzania (X units), Kenya (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Ghana (X units), Uganda (X units) and Cameroon (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ghana (+44.9%), Cameroon (+26.6%), Tanzania (+26.5%), Kenya (+17.8%), Zimbabwe (+13.6%), Morocco (+12.6%), Algeria (+11.7%), Uganda (+8.9%) and Mozambique (+8.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +44.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Egypt (-4.2%) and South Africa (-10.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+23 p.p.), Tanzania (+3.1 p.p.), Mozambique (+2.4 p.p.), Ghana (+2.1 p.p.), Morocco (+1.9 p.p.), Algeria (+1.7 p.p.) and Kenya (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Egypt and South Africa saw its share reduced by -10.7% and -18.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Mozambique ($X) and Egypt ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 46% of total imports. South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Cameroon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

Among the main importing countries, Ghana, with a CAGR of +35.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
