From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing components exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 29%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons), distantly followed by Kenya (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) represented the largest exporters of printing components, together mixing up 95% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kenya (with a CAGR of +39.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest printing components supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Kenya ($X) and Tunisia ($X), with a combined 82% share of total exports. Morocco, Egypt and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +36.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -9.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 20%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+13.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of printing components, when their volume decreased by -69.1% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 160% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, printing components imports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 95%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Nigeria dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 86% of total imports in 2022. Tanzania (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the printing components imports, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tanzania (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Nigeria (+75 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Tanzania (-2.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported printing components in Africa, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 5% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while Nigeria amounted to $X per ton.
