It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X square meters), achieving a 6.9% share of total exports. Egypt (X square meters) and Kenya (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Kenya (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X), South Africa ($X) and Mauritius ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 94% share of total exports. Egypt and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.7%.

Kenya, with a CAGR of +19.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2022, growing by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per square meter), while Kenya ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings decreased by -1.4% to X square meters, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -9.9% against 2019 indices. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012-2022. Djibouti experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Nigeria (-5.5%) and Ethiopia (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ghana (+3.5 p.p.), Somalia (+2.7 p.p.), South Africa (+2.6 p.p.) and Algeria (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Ethiopia (-3.3 p.p.) and Nigeria (-9.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings in Africa, comprising 22% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Kenya, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at +2.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+8.8% per year) and Kenya (+3.6% per year).
