Radar Apparatus Market Size in Africa

The African radar apparatus market reduced to $X in 2022, waning by -8.3% against the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a perceptible shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Radar Apparatus Production in Africa

In value terms, radar apparatus production shrank modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus, when their volume decreased by -5.6% to X units. Total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +76.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, radar apparatus exports totaled $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 45%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Tunisia dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. South Africa (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Tunisia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus exports, with a CAGR of +5.2% from 2012 to 2022. South Africa (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Tunisia (+4.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-1.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest radar apparatus supplier in Africa, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

In Tunisia, radar apparatus exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.2% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Tunisia stood at $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+5.8%).

Radar Apparatus Imports

Imports in Africa

In 2022, the amount of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus imported in Africa contracted remarkably to X units, reducing by -17.8% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 161%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, radar apparatus imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 162%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Algeria was the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which reached 44% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X units), Morocco (X units) and Ghana (X units), together creating a 23% share of total imports. The following importers - Seychelles (X units), Angola (X units), Tunisia (X units), Mozambique (X units), South Africa (X units) and Kenya (X units) - together made up 19% of total imports.

Algeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus imports, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Senegal (+42.1%), Seychelles (+21.8%), Ghana (+19.9%), Kenya (+15.5%), Mozambique (+13.8%) and Tunisia (+13.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. South Africa, Angola and Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Algeria (+40 p.p.), Senegal (+10 p.p.), Ghana (+2.7 p.p.) and Seychelles (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa, Angola and Morocco saw its share reduced by -4.7%, -7.3% and -15.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Algeria ($X), South Africa ($X) and Morocco ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 65% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Algeria, with a CAGR of +45.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 41% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
