From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to radio receiver exports from South Africa stood at -7.8%. At the same time, Mozambique (+36.0%), Kenya (+29.2%) and Botswana (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -10.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (+23.3% per year) and Botswana (-0.3% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -19.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, radio receiver export price decreased by -19.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 44%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, radio receiver imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Ghana (X units), Kenya (X units), Senegal (X units) and Morocco (X units) were the largest importers of radio receivers, together comprising 60% of total imports. The following importers - Madagascar (X units), Djibouti (X units), Cameroon (X units), Uganda (X units), Burkina Faso (X units), Sudan (X units), Ethiopia (X units) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) - together made up 21% of total imports.

At the same time, Burkina Faso (+34.8%), Senegal (+29.4%), Madagascar (+25.0%), Cameroon (+24.8%), Ethiopia (+15.5%), Ghana (+7.9%), Morocco (+1.5%) and Sudan (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +34.8% from 2012-2022. Uganda experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Djibouti (-4.0%), Kenya (-8.0%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Ghana, Senegal, Madagascar, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Morocco increased by +9.5, +4.5, +3.2, +2.5, +2.3, +1.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X), South Africa ($X) and Ghana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 46% of total imports. Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Sudan and Democratic Republic of the Congo lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +21.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, radio receiver import price increased by +10.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Madagascar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
