The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Morocco dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2022. South Africa (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Morocco was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries and blackberries exports, with a CAGR of +36.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Africa (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Morocco (+30 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -23.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) remains the largest raspberry and blackberry supplier in Africa, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 7% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -16.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Morocco amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+3.8%).

Raspberry And Blackberry Imports

Imports in Africa

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of raspberries and blackberries increased by 26% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 168% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 84%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

South Africa (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) represented roughly 61% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X tons), Botswana (X tons) and Namibia (X tons), together committing a 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Angola (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) - each finished at a 3.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mozambique (with a CAGR of +66.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest raspberry and blackberry importing markets in Africa were Mauritius ($X), South Africa ($X) and Botswana ($X), together accounting for 59% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire, Namibia, Mozambique and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Mozambique, with a CAGR of +57.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -1.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, raspberry and blackberry import price increased by +61.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 50%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
