Algeria was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 66% of total exports. South Africa (X tons) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kenya (7.2%). Egypt (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Algeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of ribbed or other deformed wire rod of non-alloy steel. At the same time, Kenya (+32.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +32.0% from 2012-2021. Deformed non-alloy steel wire rod imports fell slightly to X tons in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, deformed non-alloy steel wire rod imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Morocco (X tons), distantly followed by Mauritius (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) were the largest importers of ribbed or other deformed wire rod of non-alloy steel, together committing 63% of total imports. Congo (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Mayotte (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per ton), while Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guinea (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
