Safety Glass Market Size in Africa

The African safety glass market amounted to $X in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. The total consumption indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. In 2022, safety glass exports in Africa dropped notably to X square meters, reducing by -31.5% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, safety glass exports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Morocco (X square meters), Algeria (X square meters) and South Africa (X square meters) represented roughly 84% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X square meters), mixing up a 14% share of total exports.

Imports in Africa

Safety glass imports contracted to X square meters in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +3.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, safety glass imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 21%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Morocco (X square meters) and South Africa (X square meters) represented the major importers of safety glass in 2022, resulting at approx. 19% and 16% of total imports, respectively. Nigeria (X square meters) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.6% share, followed by Kenya (4.8%) and Algeria (4.7%). In value terms, the largest safety glass importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Nigeria ($X), with a combined 46% share of total imports. Algeria, Kenya, Angola, Egypt, Tunisia, Ghana, Libya, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire and Mauritius lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

Among the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +23.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 16%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per square meter), while Mauritius ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
