South Africa prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 83% of total exports in 2021. Kenya (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 9.2% share, followed by Tunisia (5.1%).

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+62.1%) and Kenya (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

At the same time, Nigeria (+25.1%), Congo (+22.7%), Lesotho (+19.3%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+14.1%), Sierra Leone (+13.0%), Togo (+12.9%), Ghana (+12.6%), Mozambique (+12.5%), Gabon (+5.3%) and Liberia (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +25.1% from 2012-2021. Mauritius experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Benin (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ghana (+7 p.p.), Lesotho (+5.5 p.p.), Congo (+4.3 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+3.5 p.p.), Sierra Leone (+2.4 p.p.) and Nigeria (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Angola (-26.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Angola ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sausages and similar products of meat in Africa, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Lesotho, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Angola amounted to -8.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+12.0% per year) and Lesotho (+6.7% per year).
