Screwdriver Market Size in Africa

The African screwdriver market rose significantly to $X in 2021, increasing by 5.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Screwdriver Production in Africa

In value terms, screwdriver production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 46%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa

In 2021, the amount of screwdrivers exported in Africa reduced to X tons, with a decrease of -14.3% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, screwdriver exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the main exporter of screwdrivers, generating 65% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), committing a 29% share of total exports. Angola (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -3.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tanzania (+63.1%) and Angola (+39.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +63.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Tanzania and Angola increased by +29 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest screwdriver supplier in Africa, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -4.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Angola (+28.4% per year) and Tanzania (+22.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 63% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of screwdrivers, when their volume increased by 6.9% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, screwdriver imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 22%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons), distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Congo (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) represented the key importers of screwdrivers, together creating 59% of total imports. Libya (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Togo (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Cameroon (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +37.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest screwdriver importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Ghana ($X), with a combined 34% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Libya, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo, Angola, Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Congo, which together accounted for a further 34%.

Tanzania, with a CAGR of +22.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.4% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, screwdriver import price increased by +65.3% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
