The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -25.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 75%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -14.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Egypt (X units) and South Africa (X units) represented the main exporters of seats convertible into beds in 2021, amounting to approx. 43% and 43% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Cameroon (X units), generating a 10% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +64.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of seats convertible into beds, when their volume increased by 48% to X units. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Libya (X units) and South Africa (X units) represented the largest importers of seats convertible into beds in Africa, together making up 54% of total imports. Morocco (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Ghana (6.1%). Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Algeria (X units), Cabo Verde (X units) and Egypt (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +37.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Libya ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported seats convertible into beds in Africa, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 15% share.

In Libya, bed-convertible seat imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-11.7% per year) and Morocco (+20.7% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 33%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
