Zambia represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X units), constituting a 21% share of total exports. Senegal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In Zambia, seeder and planter exports shrank by an average annual rate of -10.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+32.4% per year) and Senegal (-14.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -52.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 54%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, seeder and planter imports declined notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 162%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Nigeria represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 77% of total imports. Egypt (X units) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (7%) and Senegal (5.1%).

The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 7.7% share.

In Nigeria, seeder and planter imports increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+15.4% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+1.9% per year).
