Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa represented the main importer of self-propelled bulldozers and excavators in Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 37% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X units), comprising a 6.1% share of total imports. Mozambique (X units), Kenya (X units), Zambia (X units), Zimbabwe (X units), Burkina Faso (X units), Tunisia (X units), Algeria (X units), Ghana (X units), Nigeria (X units), Angola (X units) and Tanzania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to self-propelled bulldozer imports into South Africa stood at -3.6%. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported self-propelled bulldozers and excavators in Africa, comprising 20% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 5.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Zambia, with a 5.9% share.

In South Africa, self-propelled bulldozer imports decreased by an average annual rate of -7.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Zimbabwe (+6.7% per year) and Zambia (-4.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 110% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
