In general, imports showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 15,339% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, self-propelled railway coach imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed strong growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of self-propelled railway coach imports in 2021 were Egypt (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and South Africa (X tons), together reaching 83% of total import. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), achieving a 6.2% share of total imports. The following importers - Senegal (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) - each amounted to a 7.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +81.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest self-propelled railway coach importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), Algeria ($X) and Tunisia ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports. South Africa, Morocco, Senegal and Mauritius lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +103.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 7,333% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
